Everyone has heard the saying, patience is a virtue. But what does this mean and why should we have “patience”? At complete face value, the saying literally means that patience is a good attribute to have for an individual. Also, we are always aiming to better ourselves and to attain good, positive virtues. Patience is one of them because it is always good to be patient. When someone cuts you off when you are driving, do you get mad? When you are trying to tell someone something and they are not understanding you whatsoever, will you become more frantic and annoyed? When you are reading personal development books every day and applying all of the habits that they are describing, but do you become frustrated because you are not seeing any success? If you do for any of these, then maybe you need to work on your patience. Patience is important to have especially when it comes to personally developing yourself. This is because you will never see success immediately nor will there ever be a time when something “bad” doesn’t happens. As in, you will need patience for the rest of your life. Because of this, if you know that patience is one of your biggest issues, then you need to start working on it right now.
Everything takes time
You have to understand that literally everything takes time. Life is always going to try and find a way to make your life more difficult, which means you have the choice to whether you succeed or not. If you want success, then you need to realize that you will never see it immediately. Once you accept that idea and that you accept that things will take time, then you understand that you are in for the long haul. As in, you are ready to go the extra mile and not stop at the first step. Having a really good start but ending early is a huge problem for many individuals when it comes to personal development. Trust me, I have been feeling really burned out on reading personal development books and listening to great podcasts. This is because I feel like I am receiving the same information over and over again with nothing new. However, I have been working on my mindset that there is always something new to learn. This is because I will never be able to consume all of the knowledge in one read through or one listen. There is always something new to learn. If I had the mindset that I just need to read one book then I am good for life, then I would be destined to fail. But because I understand that I am bound for more and I need to go the extra mile, I am ready for the long haul. I am ready for more and I gladly embrace it. I have patience in my back pocket and I am ready to use it whenever. This is the mindset that you need. With it, you are bound for success.
Success is a marathon and not a sprint
If you give up on the first mile, then you are destined to fail. You have to be willing to keep going and you also need to understand that it is okay to take breaks. As in, to run a mile, you need to rest; however, you cannot allow your break to turn into a complete stop. You need a break to rejuvenate yourself to keep on going, but make sure that you keep your break as a simple break. This could be just simply treating yourself to a nice dinner or doing a hobby that you enjoy. In the end, you need to be ready to run the marathon and push on through. Remember, if you do not see success immediately, be willing to be patient.
